City Councillor's Sentencing Postponed to Early Next Week

The sentencing of Cambridge City Councillor William H. Walsh on 41 counts of bank fraud and conspiracy in U.S. District Court was postponed yesterday.

The sentencing was moved to next Monday and Tuesday by District court Judge Mark L. Wolf.

Walsh, was found guilty in March of defrauding a branch of Dime Savings Bank of New York of $2.9 million.

U.S. Attorney Peter J. Mullin, who prosecuted Walsh's case, could not be reached for comment yesterday.

The Boston Globe reported Tuesday that Mullin is planning to seek 46 months in prison for Walsh.

Also facing sentencing are two former employees in the councillor's law firm, Ann Jarosiewicz and Frances Schwartz.

Under state law, Walsh must be removed from his seat on the nine-member council on being sentenced to jail time.
