Theodore Bikel, a folk singer currently starring as Tevye in the 30th anniversary tour of "Fiddler on the Roof," spoke yesterday at Harvard-Radcliffe Hillel on music, politics and the importance of ethnic and cultural identity.
Bikel emphasized the importance of cultural self-acceptance.
"I stress cultural commitment to whatever background you belong to," Bikel told the audience of about 15 students. "I view America as kaleidoscopic, not as a melting pot. Each part is clearly delineated, all contributing to the beauty as a whole."
