Just a week after inquiries were directed towards the Office of the Registrar regarding undergraduates' claims of missing course catalogs, 20 Garden St. employees are once again explaining a mix-up.

At upperclass student registration last Friday, hundreds of students shuffled through well-stuffed packets only to find that theirs were lacking much-awaited transcripts.

While some students erroneously received the recorded grades and rank groups of their classmates, others were left with nothing to satisfy their curiosity.

Associate Registrar Thurston A. Smith said that his office is still in the process of investigating the foul-up.

"We don't yet, but we suspect that the transcripts were run on a truncated ID file," Smith said. "That would explain at least the missing records."

Slighted students can pick up copies of their transcripts at the Registrar's Office this week, according to Smith.

And, he added, most students who received transcripts belonging to other students have returned them to the Registrar as well.

Smith apologized on behalf of his office, but said, "When you're stuffing 5,000 packets, certain mix-ups are inevitable".

"We certainly regret that any personal information was released to the wrong person," he said. "But so far no students have complained to us that their privacy was violated."
