There's something to this senior thing.
Last night at Hanover, N.H. seniors Erin Maher and Debbie Han dermeyer combined for a whopping 51 points in their last collegiate game as the Harvard women's basketball team rolled to an 88.77 victory over Dartmouth.
Maher scored 30 points (one short of her jersey number) on 10-for-22 shooting from the floor and 7-for-17 shooting from three-point territory.
Flandermeyer's 21 came on a more conventional 8-for-13 night.
The only other player on the team in double figures was sophomore Tammy Butler, who scored 19 points on 9-for-11 shooting. Butler also clinched the league rebounding crown with 12 boards.
Tara Burke led four Dartmouth players in double figures with 19 points.
Harvard (16-9 overall, 11-3 Ivy) shot 45 percent in the first half but led, 39-35, at halftime, thanks to 40 percent shooting from the Big Green.
As the game wore on, Dart mouth's shooting touch deteriorated from every part of the floor. The Big Green (8-18, 6-8) shot 15-for-41 in the second half, including a miserable 1-for-6 from downtown.
With Maher tossing up treys like Euroclubbers throw around money, Harvard hit 18 of its 34 shots and coasted to the victory.
Dartmouth's Renee Reed had a terrific night with seven steals, eight rebounds, two assists and 18 points in a 33-minute effort.
Three Dartmouth players had seven rebounds.
The victory marked the end of the road for Maher and Flandermeyer, two of the best players ever to play for Harvard. Maher is the Crimson's all-time scoring leader and will compete in a three-point contest at the NCAA Final Four this April.
But aside from the seniors and Butler, the Crimson endured a subpar night.
Freshman point guard Elizabeth Proudfit shot just 3-for-10 from the floor, scoring seven points in 30 minutes. Junior Cara Frey shot 1-for-6, all from downtown.
Last night, however, they didn't have to be on target Maher and Flandermeyer took care of that.
