This week, University Attorney Allan A. Ryan Jr.'s name appeared several times in the pages of the Crimson, as hearings continue on charges that Ryan and others suppressed evidence in the prosecution of Cleveland auto worker John Demjanjuk as Nazi death camp guard Ivan the Terrible. Unfortunately, the Crimson's photo files didn't contain any pictures of Ryan to run with the stories, and the attorney was reluctant to have his photo taken.
In desperation, a brave Crimson photographer hurried to Ryan's Holyoke Center office around 5:00 p.m., hoping to ambush him as he left for the day. Upon arriving, the photographer found out Ryan was in the bathroom.
Not missing a step, the intrepid photographer staked out the men's room until Ryan exited, at which point he snapped the shutter and made a new, invaluable addition to the Crimson's photo files. The picture is shone above.
But the conversation between the photographer and Ryan maybe more illuminating:
A surprised Ryan: "Who are you?"
Photographer: "The Harvard Crimson."
Ryan (shaking his head and continuing to walk): "You guys really suck."
Proud photographer: "Thanks."
