The Faculty Council yesterday discussed a booklet the College will issue next week explaining the purposes and procedures of the Administrative Board.
The council discussed the language the report uses to define how much evidence is necessary to determine a student's guilt. The faculty members changed the terms used slightly to clarify the booklet's standards.
The booklet will also include statistics about last year's Ad Board decisions. In 1991-92, 40 students received admonitions, 16 were required to withdraw, 190 were put on probation for academic reasons and 43 were required to withdraw for academic reasons.
The 48-page booklet will include precedents and hypothetical examples detailing the Ad Board's policies on specific offenses, including date rape and student academe dishonesty.
The booklet which was intended for registration packets but has not yet been printed, is the first such clarification in more than a decade Since the last report, the board's practices have changed with the creation of a number of new subcommittees focusing on specific issues.
In other business, the council discussed possible changes to the University's doctoral programs. Currently, doctorates can be earned only through the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the structure of the programs could change to move some responsibility to other schools.
Council members also requested periodic updates on the activities of Harvard management Corporation (HMC). The council spoke to HMC representatives two weeks ago and questioned them closely on their management practices.
