Hillel Elects Chair

Two friends with similar visions vied for the leadership of the Harvard-Radcliffe Hillel last night in elections for next year's Coordinating Council.

Elie G. Kaunfer '95 was elected chair of the council, and Deborah K. Steinberger '95 was elected associate chair.

"I am very, very pleased," said outgoing Chair Jeremy A. Dauber '95. "Elie and Deborah are both fantastically talented, incredibly capable people."

Kaunfer said that as chair, he intends to "enlarge the number of people who feel comfortable at Hillel."

He said he plans to introduce some social action and inter-ethnic groups to increase participation.

"I felt pretty good," he said. "But then I was sad for Deborah."

Steinberger said she was looking forward to leading the Hillel this upcoming year with Kaunfer.

"We both have the same vision," she said.

"I think it will be a very exciting year with Hillel moving into the new building," Steinberger said.

The new facility, currently under construction, is slotted to open for Commencement 1994. Steinberger said the builders may be finished as early as February.

"I hope that through a wide variety of programs, we can make Hillel better serve the needs of Harvard's Jewish community," she said.

Kaunfer and Steinberger, who are both Crimson editors, will assume their duties on the council at the beginning of the second semester.
