Boathouse Bar Will Stay Open

Lease Dispute Ends

The Boathouse Bar, a longtime favorite watering hole of Harvard students, will remain in business for at least a little while longer, despite concern that a lease dispute could have forced the bar to close at the end of October.

Boathouse bartender Mike D. Walther said yesterday that the bar will continue serving thanks to a lease that was recently agreed upon by manager John Brown and landlord Genevieve McMillan.

Although the lease is not yet signed, Walther dispelled rumors that the Boathouse would be closing anytime soon. "Our owner has and ongoing, unsigned lease to continue operations," Walther said. "I don't know the exact terms of the new agreement, or how long we'll be here, but for now, we're staying open."

Last month, McMillan threatened to close the bar and a "For Rent" sign was posted. At the time, she said the Boathouse would definitely close by the end of October.

Walther said the conflict over the lease for the Boathouse will not affect the newly-renovated Spaghetti Club, also run by the Boathouse owners.
