The recent controversial statements of Kenan Professor of Government Harvey C. Mansfield '53 about homosexuality were the subject of the first ever meeting of "Ye Olde Political Economy Table" at Eliot House.
About 11 students debated passionately for almost two hours. Conservative Peninsula writers argued with a Lighthouse staffer over M6
Mansfield's views while others with opinions scattered on the political spectrum eagerly joined in.
Ye Olde table, scheduled to meet every other Thursday at 6 p.m., was the brainchild of Eliot House government and economics tutor David D. Kane, who found late night debates in college "downright fun."
"I wanted to create a place where people who felt like arguing could argue," he said.
"People on the right and left don't usually come together and discuss politics," he added.
Kane said he hopes to include professors in future table meetings. "It would have been fun to have had Mansfield there with us," Kane said.
