The City Council and City Manager held a public hearing Monday evening "to sit down and discuss goals and objectives for the coming year," in the words of Mayor Kenneth E. Reeves '72.
Although City Manager Robert W. Healy's contract stipulates that he hold a discussion of goals at the begining of each this is the first year he has held a formal hearing, Reeves said.
But before Healy presented his list of goals--which numbered over 100, the councillors spoke of a few of their own goals for the city.
"What goes on in Cambridge is what we can impact," Reeves began the discussion, including affirmative action hiring, excellence in education and economic development of the city among his goals.
Other councillors emphasizes such themes as opportunities for the city's youth. "[We must] deal with the disenchantment of so many young people of the city," said Councillor Jonathan S. Myers.
Healy's goals ranged from establishing a scholarship fund for graduates of Cambridge schools to increasing the minority representation on the city's payroll by 69 percent.
A second hearing on the goals and objectives will be held January 27.
