Harvard senior Mike Vukonich, a standout forward for the Harvard hockey team, has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey Leage.
According to Vukonich's roommate, senior linemate Peter Ciavaglia, Vukonich and his agent, Jeff Solomon, finalized the deal late Monday. Yesterday, Vukonich reported to Edmonton, Alberta, where the Kings are battling the Edmonton Oilers in the Smythe Division finals of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
"It didn't seem that realistic that this would happen," Ciavaglia said. "But something just seemed to click the night before he left. The Kings have had a rash of injuries, but I doubt he'll play."
Vukonich had 32 goals and 23 assists last season, and a total of 74 goals and 72 assists during his Harvard career.
A Kings media representative had no comment on the Vukonich signing other than to say: "I guarantee that he will not play tonight."
