Medical Research Opens New Frontiers, Three Scientists Say

Advances in molecular biology and research are opening up new frontiers in medical treatment, a panel of three Harvard scientists said yesterday.

The scholars spoke before a group of 50 academics at an inaugural symposium on "The Rise of Molecular Medicine."

Andrus Professor of Genetics Philip Leder '56, Gaiser Professor of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology Christopher T. Walsh and Pusey Professor of Neurobiology Gerald D. Fischbach spoke and answered questions for two hours.

Dean of Harvard Medical School Daniel C. Tosteson '44 moderated the discussion on recent discoveries in molecular biology and their bearing on the future of medicine.

Fischbach spoke about his research on the molecular basis of transmission between nerve cells.
