The Faculty of Harvard Law School has appointed Scott Brewer, a specialist in jurisprudence, to the position of assistant professor.
Clerked for Marshall
Brewer, 33, was a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall last year and is currently working on a Ph.D. in philosophy at Harvard.
Law School Dean Robert Clark expressed his pleasure at having Brewer on the faculty.
'Expertise in Jurisprudence'
"He brings an expertise in jurisprudence, logic and the philosophy of languages that will enhance our ability to prepare students to think critically about legal practice," Clark said.
Brewer now teaches a class in legal contracts. This spring he will lead a seminar in jurisprudence, entitled "Philosophy in Legal Language."
"I am extremely excited to be here," Brewer said. "There are a lot of outstanding scholars at Harvard, and I hope to talk to and share ideas with them. That's what makes this place so special."
Brewer was a lecturer on law at Harvard in 1989. He has also been a visiting intructor at Yale College and at Dartmouth college.
