Most of K-House Not Homophobic

MAIL

To the Editors of The Crimson:

I live in Kirkland house, and I was deeply dismayed to learn of the harassment that one of my neighbors allegedly directed at BGLAD tabling in our dining hall on Monday ["BGLAD Week Tablers Harassed," April 19]. It saddens me that such prejudice and disrespect exist in the world in general and in my own college dormitory in particular.

At the same time, I hope that the incident will not be seen as reinforcing a stereotype of Kirkland House that I have found to be superficial, distorted and largely meaningless. I can only condemn Monday's incident and laud BGLSA for its impressive response with the eat-in on Thursday.

Still, I urge the Harvard community not to turn Kirkland House into a symbol of intolerance as a result of this homophobic display on the part of one Kirkland resident. Peter Gray '91
