Last night at Yale, the Harvard women's ice hockey team blew out Yale by a score of 7-1. The Elis only got nine shots on goal, while Harvard ripped off 71.

Harvard (12-6 overall, 4-4 Ivy) scored its first goal halfway into the first period on a shot by freshman Kim Landry, but the Crimson could not tally again until the second session. Harvard's low total can be attributed to Yale goaltender Maureen Magauran, who had 24 saves in the period. Meanwhile Harvard's Gillian D'Souza held Yale scoreless with five stops of her own.

Taking Control

In the second period, Harvard took control.

Char Joslin, one of the league's leading scores, began the rally with a goal assisted by Martina Albright. Joslin went on to assist Ginny Simonds and Lauren Messmore on two more Harvard goals.

With seven minutes left in the second period, the bulldogs answered Messmore's goal with a score of their own. But after that, the Elis were silent--Harvard continued its domination.

Sandra Whyte opened the third period with a spectacular goal. Whyte, another top scorer in the Ivies, scored again midway through the final period with assists from Albright and Joslin.

Joslin, who finished with a total of two goals and three assists, scored her final goal four minutes into the third period.

Although 7-1 is an impressive score, credit must be given to Magauran, who had a total of 64 saves. The Harvard offense was relentless, but Magauran put up a valiant effort.
