Polish Writer Recieves Award From Niemans

Helena Luczywo, co-editor of Poland's first independent newspaper and founder of the Solidarity News Agency, was at Harvard this weekend to accept the Nieman Foundation's Louise M. Lyons Award for Conscience and Integrity in Journalism.

Luczyco, who was also the editor of the Solidarity union's underground newspaper, currently edits a 500,000-circulation pro-Solidarity daily newspaper.

The award, which includes a $1000 honorarium, was presented at a reception Friday evening in Cambridge. Luczyo was selected for the Lyons Award by Nieman fellows last spring.
