Reyes Murder Suspect Surrenders to Police

A 24-year-old Salvadoran man wanted on murder charges surrendered to Cambridge police Thursday night, police said.

Jose S. Parada, formerly of Park Street in Somerville, was being sought in connection with a stabbing that occurred last March at the Old Cambridge Baptist Church, police said.

The Mass. Ave. church was holding a benefit dance for Salvadoran emigres when a fight developed between Parada and 22-year-old Marcus U. Reyes, according to police. Later that night. Reves was brought to Mount Auburn Hospital with a fatal stab wound to the chest, police said.

A spokesperson for the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office told The Boston Globe that Parada claimed to have returned to the U.S. from El Salvador after seeing wanted posters of himself.

Parada reportedly said he reentered the country by illegally sneaking across the Mexican border.

The suspect is being held without bail pending a February 21 probable cause hearing, The Globe said.
