The Class of 1990 has elected Sengal M. Selassie '90 and Jennifer E. Brumage '90 first class marshals, the winners said yesterday.

Seniors voting at the end of last week chose the pair and six others as Harvard and Radcliffe senior class marshals in the event coordinated by the Harvard Alumni Association.

The Harvard marshals, who are responsible for coordinating commencement activities, alumni events and fundraising for their class are, in order of votes received: Selassie, Michael C. Ray, J. David Brewington Jr. and Thomas J. Connolly.

The Radcliffe marshals in voting order are Brumage, Erin O'Brien, Amy M. McNamer and Kathleen M. Washienko.

Selassie, an economics concentrator who is also co-president of the Harvard-Radcliffe African Students Asociation, said he was "pleasantly surprised" by the results.

Brumage, president of the Crimson Key Society, said she saw her election as "an opportunity to meet and work with other people and to maintain a sense of community."

"I've always enjoyed organizing and running large events, and this is a chance to meet and work with other people," Brumage said.

Several of the new marshals said their experience in organizing events for other activities led them to run for the position.

"I like to be involved in things with school," said O'Brien, "This is a great way to be involved again."

The marshals, who will begin formal meetings on November 9, expressed a desire to make their senior year interesting and exciting for all members of the class.

"I want to make sure senior year is a positive experience for everyone," said Ray. "The most important thing is to make sure all activities are affordable for all seniors and their families," Ray said. "Senior week should not bankrupt anyone.

Washienko said her main goal was "to get the class together" and encourage "a lot of participation in the events."
