Armed Men Rob Hospital Pharmacy

Two armed men robbed the Cambridge City Hospital pharmacy Wednesday night and made away with an as yet undetermined quantity of narcotics, according to police records.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, police received a report that two men brandishing weapons had tied up two pharmacy workers and filled four plastic trash bags with drugs.

One of the suspects was described as 5'10" with "salt and pepper" colored hair, wearing a blue plaid wool jacket, a black hat and thickrimmed glasses. The other suspect was 5'6" and wearing dark clothing. Both were wearing blue jeans, ski masks and gloves, police reports said.

A statement released last evening by Laurie Volkin of the hospital's public affairs office said that employees were "in the process of inventorying the stock to determine what was taken."

The statement also said that hospital officials are "assessing what improvements, if any, are necessary regarding security."

A spokesperson for the hospital said that the front doors are usually locked at 9 p.m. After that, everyone entering the building must pass through the emergency room, she said.

Cambridge police said yesterday that no arrests have been made in the case.
