CANTON, N.Y.--Sophomore Martyn Ball scored a goal and added an assist as St. Lawrence beat Princeton 5-1 last night in the first game of its two-game ECAC Quarterfinals series.
Ball scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 8:47 of the first period when he took a drop pass from Wayne Gary Robertson and put the puck between the legs of Princeton goalie Mark Salisbury to give St. Lawrence a 2-0 lead.
The Saints, 24-7, opened the scoring when Mike Pelletier's wide shot struck the end boards, bounced off Salisbury's skates and into the net two minutes into the first period.
Princeton, 12-14-1, cut the Saints' lead to 2-1 at 8:05 of the second period as John Mesuri scored on a five-on-three power play.
Saints' sophomore Chris Consorte, freshman Andy Pritchard and Brian McColgan added St. Lawrence's final three goals.
