In its debut team match yesterday afternoon at Palmer Dixon Courts, the Harvard's women tennis team smashed Boston University, 8-1, with hard-hitting singles and doubles play.

Even with key players Amy Delone and Christina Dragomirescu taking the day off, the Crimson--ranked 24th in the nation--sent the Terriers scampering all over the courts with overhand smashes and aggressive net play.

Harvard dominated the doubles action, winning all three matches handily. Co-Captains Kristin Bland and Jamie Henikoff, ranked 19th in the nation, easily won their match, 6-0, 6-4.

Jackie Farrell and Kathy Mulvehal lost only three games in their match and took a 6-2, 6-1 decision. Farrell stunned the B.U. players with a killer serve, at one point delivering three aces in a row. Jennifer Minkus and Nicole Rival won, 6-3, 6-3, to complete the sweep.

"We have a strong line-up all the way," Henikoff said, "with 10 or 11 really good players."

In singles play, all Harvard players won their matches except for first singles player Tanya Stasiuk, who lost, 7-5, 6-4. Farrell, at second singles, had no problems in her match, winning, 6-0, 6-0.

Mulvehal highlighted the day with a dashing comeback, after being down, 5-2, in the second set. she ended up winning, 6-1, 7-5.

Henikoff said after the match that the team was excited over this victory, especially because B.U. carries the reputation for "hanging in there" until the end, despite the score or the odds.
