The Harvard baseball team opens its Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League (EIBL) season this weekend by hosting doubleheaders with Yale and Brown.

The Crimson (0-1), which fell to Boston University, 5-3, on Thursday, today will face a 16-5 Yale squad that won 13 consecutive games before dropping two to Connecticut College over the past week-and-a-half.

In last year's doubleheader with the Elis, Harvard suffered a 3-0 shutout in the opener, but took the nightcap in extra innings, 6-5.

Captain Jon Saadey, who went 4-for-7 against Crimson pitching in the two games, leads the Bulldog squad with a .388 batting average.

For the Crimson, Jim DePalo--who made the All-EIBL first team in 1986--collected four of Harvard's 15 hits in the doubleheader last year.

Kevin Curtin and Mike Dorrington are scheduled to pitch for the Crimson today, while Adam Schierholz and Ray Romero are the proabable starters for the Elis.

The Harvard-Brown doubleheader tomorrow will feature Bruin slugger Tom Klaff (.476, two home runs), freshman Scott Odierno (.474, one homer), and Eric Kimble (.441).

In their 1986 doubleheader, pitcher Chris Marchok led Harvard to a 6-2 win in the opener, but Brown salvaged a split against the Crimson by winning the second game, 10-3.

Marchok--who led the team with a 1.70 ERA last year--and Jim Chenevey, who tallied 19 K's in only 10-1/3 innings in 1986, are slated to throw for the Crimson tomorrow.
