Yesterday, Dave Fish earned his 100th career victory even though he was getting a suntan in Florida. The Harvard Men's squash team, which Fish has coached for 11 years, was in the darker confines of Hemenway Gym but still managed to dispose of Dartmouth, 9-0.
Entering its 46th match against the nation's number one ranked team, the Big Green had a 0-45 record against the Crimson.
Some things never change.
Capitalizing on strong performances from all its members-- the Crimson did not lose a single game yesterday--Harvard handily beat Dartmouth while upping its record to 9-0 overall (2-0 Ivy League) and its nine-man dual winning streak to 56 consecutive games.
Joe DiMaggio would be proud.
Because of the Crimson victory, Fish--who is working with the Harvard tennis team in Florida tied Harry L. Cowles for second place on the list of Harvard's winningest squash coaches. Jack Barnaby stands atop that list with 355 wins.
In the number-two match yesterday, Harvard's Rusty Ball whipped Rob Adams 15-5, 15-7, 15-10 to set the tone of straight-game victories for the over-powering Crimson.
John Bernheimer mixed deep cross-court and rail shots to romp over the Big Green's John Zonis, 15-9, 15-11, 15-9.
In the number-three match, Harvard Co-Captain Joe Dowling crushed Bryon Roberts by ridiculous scores in the first two games, 15-5, 15-3. Roberts managed to make the third game respectable, however, as Dowling held him off, 15-12.
Harvard's Doug Lifford smashed Ian Paine, 15-7, 15-10, 15-10 to seal the victory for the Crimson.
Dominance
In the last match of the day, Harvard's number one player, Darius Pandole, used his wide array of shorts to destroy Alex Cuthbert.
