The number one ranked Harvard women's squash team opened its Ivy League season with a 7-2 victory over Brown last night in Providence.

Harvard, the defending national and Ivy League champion, improved to 2-0 overall after beating the Bruins for the 14th straight time.

"It's going to be tough to try to live up to last year's record, but I think we're going to do pretty well," Harvard Co-Captain Lucy Miller said.

"It's hard to come back as defending champs and have everyone want to knock you off," sophomore Jenny Holleran said.

The game began with Harvard Co-Captain Diana Edge's straightset, 15-11, 15-6, 15-10 win over Sue Cutler.

Holleran then defeated Krine Debarton, 15-11, 15-7, 15-9 and Marianna Chilton beat Liz Bernbok, 15-11, 15-14, 15-10 Miller lost to Karen Leneback 15-9, 15-12, 15-10.

"The team has a lot of depth," Miller said. "We lost Ingrid [Boyum] to graduation last year, but we got two really good freshmen [Daphne Onderdonk and Stephanie Clark.] Positions three through six are pretty much interchangeable, so we're pretty stable."
