Bye, Bye Luke

Around the Square

LONG. LONG time ago,

I can still remember

How Luke's music used to make me smile.

I knew if he had had his chance,

That he could make those people dance,

And Harvard would be happy for awhile.

But HRE sent Luke thither,

With the suspension they delivered.

Bad news for our old songs;

Luke couldn't sing one more song.

I can't remember if I cried

When I read about the market slide,

But something touched me deep inside

The day the music died.

So bye, bye Luke Hunsberger, goodbye.

Used to listen in the square,

But the music's gone dry.

Them songs have gone away,

Down on Brattle to stay,

Singing, "This'll be the day that they died."

(Apologies to Don McLean.)

Dissent

Now, for ten days we've been on our own,

And Luke plays by himself at home,

Like the way it ought to be.

His noise pollution shook the Square,

The same damn tunes would fill the air

Till help came in the form of HRE-eeee!

Cause while old Luke was out of town

They stole his axe and killed his sound

We all got up to dance

The Dead Heads had no chance!

So when those geebs try to mourn his loss

And say they miss his awfull dross

We'll let them know what's really boss:

The day his music died. --Richard M. Murphy   --Jeffrey J. Wise
