Despite high hopes following its big win over Columbia on Saturday, the Harvard women's volleyball team fell to Yale 3-0 at Payne Whitney Gymnasium in New Haven last night.
"We weren't playing up to our potential," disappointed Co-Captain Maia Forman said. "We just weren't alive enough."
The loss dropped the Crimson's record to 11-6, and 1-2 in the Ivy League. Yale improved its Ivy record to 2-1.
"Yale set the tempo early," Forman said. Yale started out the first set by winning eight straight points, and didn't lose its advantage for the rest of the match.
Forman credits Yale's win to the Bulldog's blocking game.
"Ninety percent of our passes were being blocked," she said. "We didn't adjust until it was too late."
The spikers are in the middle of the toughest week of their season, with a match against number-one ranked Penn Friday, and a tournament against Princeton and Dartmouth Saturday.
"I hope we've gotten it out of our system." senior Co-Captain Jodi Cassell said. "We're going to have to play so well to beat Penn."
However, the team is having one of the best seasons in its history, and the loss last night won't get them down.
"Our spirits are still high," Forman said. "We're going to have a long practice tomorrow. We're not falling apart because of our loss."
