The top four members of the Harvard women's squash team--Diana Edge, Ingrid Boyum, Marty Winnick and Lucy Miller--played in the U.S. Women's Nationals, held this past weekend in New York.
The Crimson's number four player, Miller, lost in the first round. The nature of the tournament, a feed in consolation, requires two losses before elimination. Unable to rebound, Miller went on to lose her consolation match.
Co-Captain Winnick, ranked third on the Harvard squad, fared better.
Winnick beat first-round opponent Andrea Dariff, but lost in the second round to Marianne Greenburg, seeded in the top 16. Winnick also lost in the consolation round.
Co-Captain Boyum's tournament play followed a similar pattern, but with a twist. After winning in the first round and losing in the second, the Crimson's number two player faced teammate Edge in the consolation match--Harvard's number two against Harvard's number one for a spot in the consolation semifinals.
Number one came out on top, as Edge edged Boyum for the victory.
Edge, Harvard's top player, had a bye in the first round and sailed to an easy victory in the second.
Edge's defeat of Boyum in the consolation match earned her a spot in the semifinals, where she outswung Julianne Harris. In the finals, Demer Holleran defeated Edge, who finished sixth overall.
