In light of Harvard's recent lack of success on the gridiron, perhaps Crimson fans should set their sights on Harvard's football alternative--house football.

Yesterday at Soldiers Field, Leverett battled Kirkland in a contest of undefeated teams and Eliot/Lowell challenged Currier in a clash of winless squads.

To open the afternoon's action, Leverett (now 3-0) defeated Kirkland (2-1) in a defensive battle, 13-0. Leverett mounted the first half's only two scoring threats--a missed field goal in the first quarter and a near touchdown pass in the second that Woody Lennon caught just beyond the end zone.

In the second half, Leverett quarterback Jeff Ticknor sneaked a yard over the goal line to put Leverett on the board. Leverett started the drive by blocking a punt and falling on the ball on the Kirkland 31-yard line. An extra point made the score 7-0.

Leverett added another touchdown on the closing play of the game, when a fumbled Kirkland snap was picked up by Leverett's Chris Dole in the end zone.

Leverett's Steve Grover called the game "the toughest we've had so far-we could hardly move on offense."

The day's finale pitted Currier against Eliot/Lowell. The action got off to a fast start as Currier quarterback Danny Sullivan connected with wide reciever Woody McMillan on a 40-yard pass, only to have McMillan fumble to Eliot/Lowell after the catch.

Eliot/Lowell promptly fumbled the ball back to Currier on the next play-and the Quadlings took advantage of the opportunity, with Sullivan running 12 yards for a touchdown. After a successful two-point conversion, the score stood at 8-0.

In the second quarter, McMillan scored on a two-yard reverse lateral, bringing the score to 16-0 after another successful two-point conversion.

After Currier extended its lead to 24-0 with a two-yard touchdown run by E.J. Gong, Eliot/Lowell running back Ed Nekritz broke loose for a 55-yard scamper to make the final score 24-6.

"I said last time, once we get our backfield going, we'll beat everybody," Currier Coach Bill Corbett noted. "It sure looks that way."
