The Harvard varsity sailing team tallied 75 points to place third in the Hoyt Trophy at Brown University this weekend.
Sailing in the A divison, Harvard's Gordon Burnes and Petra Schumann racked up 41 points to close in fifth place.
John Pernick and Jeff Kurland accumulated 34 points in the B division to earn a second-place finish.
Disadvantage
In team race competiton, the Radcliffe sailing team captured second place yesterday at MIT, finishing with a 3-2 record.
In the team race format, each squad sails three boats against its opponents--but Radcliffe was forced to sail just two boats throughout the competition because of an injury to Captain Jane Fogg.
"We had permission to sail, with the understanding that we were sailing for experience," Harvard Coach Mike Horn said.
Radcliffe opened the competition with a loss to Tufts, but came on strong during the elimination round. The sailors coasted past Brown, MIT and Simmons to vault into the semi-finals.
At this point, Radcliffe had to sail against Tufts once again--but this time, the Black and White creamed the Jumbos in two straight races, qualifying itself for the finals against Brown.
But the comeback bid was halted by the Bruins, who proceeded to sweep the Crimson in two races.
