Women's Water Polo
The Harvard women's water polo team triumphed once again yesterday afternoon, drowning MIT 11-7.
The win lifted Harvard's record to 10-1, the only loss having come last weekend at the hands of Slippery Rock College.
Harvard seized the lead early, notching two quick goals. The Crimson's Kristan Johnson and Annie Wilson lit the scoreboard, before MIT's Lisa Fried punched in a powerplay goal--her first of three.
Harvard's Catherine Ysrael dominated the second quarter. First she scored off a steal by Johnson, and then assisted the next three goals--connecting with Alison Greis twice and then with Patti Wiedeman on a nice give and go play. Kelley Withy then pumped in one from way outside, running the score up to 7-1.
MIT staged a partial comeback, cranking in four unanswered goals. Fried floated one over the outstretched hands of Crimson goalie Tanya Humphreys, and then assisted teammate Clea Waite, Kathy Warren notched two successive short-handed goals, closing the gap to 7-5.
Lynley Ogilvie broke Harvard's dry spell, beating the MIT goalie to the corner. But MIT gained an easy tally when the Crimson netminder, Johnson, illegally brought the ball back into the net with her.
Withy and Fried exchanged powerplay goals for a 9-7 score before Wilson, displaying great finesse, spun past her defenders and pumped one into the corner of the net. Withy added an insurance goal for the 11-7 final.
