Men's Volleyball
It was almost too close for comfort as the Harvard men's Volleyball team downed Spring field, 3-2, last night.
Arriving late and with limited time for warmups, the visiting Crimson squad played flat, finding a difficult to gain its initial momentum.
As a result, Harvard quickly found itself down.
Springfield clinched the first two games, 15-8, 15-11, before Harvard could find its groove.
But then things began in click for the spikers. Setter Russell Riopelle engineeerd a powerful offense, led by seniors Scott Alpert, Scan Doyle, and Captain Mohan Nadkarni.
Harvard rallied back to win the next three games. 19-9, 15-2, 15-11 and captured the match.
If the Crimson beats Springfield again on April 9, it will gain home court advantage for the East Count Volleyball league quarterfinals April 13.
House Honkey
Kirkland House narrowly defeated Quincy House, 3-1, for the Intramural hockey championship last night.
The two-goal margin believe that closeness of the frenetic and intaense game, played at Bright Center.
Quincy played tough hockey for the first half, which resumed in an early goal by Steve Shure Seconds before the end of the opening periods, Kirkland's Brian O'Neill retaliated by connecting with Dan Sheehan for the lying goal.
Neither team dominated play in the second period as action alternated back and fourth.
Before the game. Kirkland Captain Mike Travaghni speculated. "It's going to be a close game, but whoever's goalie plays better will win."
The final half showed him prophetic as Kirkland goalie Charlie Weeks skillfully blocked an onslaught of shots.
Kirkland's last two goals--which somewhow eluded an equally impressive Quincy goalie Peter Miller-were provided by Rufus Clark and Paul Rooney.
