Ten undergraduate demonstrators gathered outside President Bok's office yesterday afternoon to wage the second protest this week against Harvard's work holdings in corporations doing business in South Africa.
Demanding that Harvard's governing corporation "stop fighting freedom" of Blacks and other minorities, members of the Southern Africa Solidarity Committee (SASC) handed out leaflets to passers-by in "kicking off" Spring term protest activity, SASC Visit President Anthony A. Bell '86 said yesterday.
The group's pamphlets entitled "A Call for Divestiture," charged that Harvard profits from the exploitation of South African Blacks and from the sale of commodities which bolster regime's secret military police. It called for complete disarmament.
"We just wanted to begin to get people interested by passing things out today: It's just symbolic of our larger plans," said Bell.
SASC, which was founded in the 70's during widespread student unrest, will work towards increasing participation in a national divestiture day rally on April 4th, he said.
The organizations will also concentrate on planning a large-scale Harvard rally, sending aid to famine-stricken Africa and conducting a student poll on the divestment issue, Bell added.
