Two years ago, the Harvard men's swimming team got double-dunked during a weekend swing to Columbia and Navy. The twin losses snapped the Crimson's 30-game winning streak--the longest in national collegiate swimming.
This year, the tables were turned.
In their season opener Friday, the aquamen rolled over the Midshipmen, 72-45. The squad then headed north to New York Saturday and recorded another easy win--this time over the Lions--to complete the weekend sweep.
"This was a big meet," Harvard Tri-Captain Dan Watson said. "We wanted to re-establish ourselves. Now everyone knows we're the best in the East."
Against Navy, Tri-Captain Peter Egan copped a first in the 400 freestyle, while freshman Scott Hoy won the 100 breaststroke.
Lars Reierson paced the Crimson with victories in the 200 individual medley at both meets, while Bill Bird aided the cause at Columbia with victories in the 500 and 1000 freestyle.
And diver Watson placed first on both the one-and three-meter boards Friday--and then repeated his exploits Saturday.
"This was a great way to start the season," Tri-Captain Tim Ford said.
