The Harvard men's squash team continued its dominating ways yesterday with a 9-0 victory over MIT at Hemenway Gym. The squad rolled to its third win without losing a single game.
Jack Colbourne, the eighth-ranked player on the varsity squad, moved up and played number one for the match. He had little difficulty with MIT's top player, Omar Masrur, winning three games to none.
Doug Lifford, usually the number 10 player of varsity, moved up to number two. Lifford also had an easy time, cruising by Tech's J.T. Lam.
Positions three through nine were filled very capably by players from the JV team.
Co-Captain David Segal, the varsity's number seven player, who sat out the MIT match said, "This was an opportunity for some of the lower players to get some experience at the varsity level."
Collectively, the second-teamers overwhelmed their opponents, with all matches ending before the contest was an hour old.
None of this surprised Segal, however. "We're a very deep group," he said, "Some of our lower-ranked guys on JV could play on teams in the top five."
Engineer Paul Hermann, a 3-0 victim at number six to Harvard's Bill Parsons, felt respect for the nation's top-ranked squad.
