Scott Collins next year will become the third linebacker in the last four years to captain the Harvard football team.

His election by a vote of the returning varsity gridders was announced last night at the annual Harvard football banquet at the Harvard Club of Boston.

Collins, who has started every game of his varsity career, finished among the team leaders this year in tackles (53 first hits and 13 assists) and also racked up two quarterback sacks and recovered two fumbles.

The Elmhurst, Ill., native will replace senior linebacker Brent Wilkinson as the Crimson's leader. Linebacker Joe Azelby captained the 1983 Crimson squad.

"I think any one of the 15 guys nominated could have been the captain," Collins said. "I don't see myself as better than any one of those. It's just a great gesture by the team."

Other highlights last night included the prsentation of the Frederick Greeley Crocker Award for the team's most valuable player to senior safety Cecil Cox, and the presentation of the William Paine LaCroix Trophy for sportsmanship, loyalty, and team spirit to senior fullback Chris Ridout.

Senior defensive tackle Bernie Guekguezian garnered the Henry N. Lamar Award for dedication, senior middle guard Jerry Garvey grabbed the Robert F. Kennedy Award for determination and willingness to work and junior center Mike Murray was presented the Joseph E. Wolf Award as the team's outstanding interior lineman.
