Race Relations Fund Grants $8935

Short Takes

The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations recently awarded $8935 to 16 undergraduate organizations for academic and artistic projects.

The University-funded Foundation, charged with promoting intercultural awareness on campus, selected the 16 student groups last Friday out of a record application pool of 28.

Projects funded this year include music, dance, and drama performances, as well as exhibitions, cultural festivals, lecture series, two magazines, and a film series. The Foundation will also fund a Reggae Night at Cookin', the Cabot House nightclub.

The four-year-old, University-funded race relations body, formed after an unsuccessful attempt to establish a student Third World Center, awarded grants of up to $1200. It could not be determined yesterday how much each group received.

The purpose of the group "is to bring together students of different backgrounds" said Student Advisory Committee member Betsy Biemann '86. "It's not just a giving-out-money organization."
