Stephenson Axed
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.--Kay Stephenson, whose Buffalo Bills won only two of their National Football League games last season and are winless so far this year, was fired yesterday as head coach, the team announced.
Islanders 2, Bruins 1
From Wire Dispatches
UNIONDALE, N.Y.--Rookie forward Mikko Makela scored the first goal of the game and set up the winning score by Brad Dalgarno last night to lead the New York Islanders to a 2-1 National Hockey League exhibition victory over the Boston Bruins.
At 16:44 of the second period, with the game tied at 1-1, Makela alertly backchecking in the Islander zone, picked up the puck off the stick of Bruins forward Geoff Courtnall.
Makela's lead pass sprung Dalgarno for a breakaway score, the first National Hockey League score for the Islanders' first-round draft pick.
