PROVIDENCE--A week of secret practices didn't help the Brown offense yesterday, so a basketball player turned defender yesterday came to the Bruins' resucue instead.

A free safety playing his first collegiate football game, Bruin sophomore Keiron Bigby recorded three interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns, including one for a school-record 101 yards.

Bigby's other touchdown off an interception went for 91 yards and clinched a 27-14 victory for the host Bruins as well as a happy beginning for Brown first-year Coach John Rosenberg.

If not for Bigby, though, the Bruins could very well have lost the game. Yale outgained Brown in total yards (329-194), in first downs (22-9) and in time of possession (40:27-19:33) and controlled the line of scrimmage all day.

In fact, Brown couldn't move the ball until the fourth quarter, by which time Yale had cut the Bruin lead to 14-7.

Then, though, the hosts put together an 80-yard drive that took 6:38 off the clock and put the score at 20-7.
