Sudduth, on Crew, Wins Silver Medal

Harvard has its first medalist in the 1984 Olympic Games.

Andrew Sudduth '83-85 rowed second seat on the men's eight-oared shell which won a silver medal at Lake La Sitas Sunday.

The U.S. boat mounted a valiant last-minute charge but was unable to catch gold medalist Canada which won by a mere 0.42 seconds.

"We probably should have been more worried about them." Sudduth told The Boston Globe. "The finish line came up pretty fast, it was within reach. It's disappointing that we weren't able to grasp it."

Sudduth has been a mainstay of the men's Heavyweight Crew during his time at Harvard. This past year he stroked the boat to a 2-2 record.

In addition, Harvard's former women's Heavyweight Crew coach, Carrie Graves, was a member of the U.S. women's eight that won a gold medal on Saturday.
