The Admissions Office will likely wait six months to a year before replacing outgoing Director William R. Fitzsimmons '67 I. Fred Jewett '57, dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, said last week.
Jewett added that he is prepared to take the time to look for someone of comparable "stature and ability" to fill the post. Fitzsimmons announced last week he would leave to become executive director of the Harvard College Fund.
During the search staff members will assume Fitzsimmons's responsibilities, Jewett said. The dean added that Fitzsimmons plans major admissions operations like recruitment mailings, giving speeches and training new staff.
"We're lucky he chose this time to leave now that our observation is on a lese hefty stage," he said adding. If is had been December or January there would have been a real crists.
In his new position, Fitzsimmons will work closely with the Financial Aid Office, Jewett said.
Fundraising
The Financial aid office provides profiles of scholarship ship recipient to the College Fund to assist, in fundraising, James S. Miller, director of Financial Aid, said last week.
With its new director, "I hope it [the College Fund] becomes an even more significant scholarship source," Miller said.
"They use us lot," Jewett said of the fund, adding. "We can speak to groups and diseminate information about the students helped with scholarship, and that helps fundraising.
