Infielder Eddie Jurak ignited a three-run fourth inning with a double in his first at bat this year and the Boston Red Sox snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Oakland Athletics last night at Fenway Park.
Boston starter Bruce Hurst (2-2) allowed nine hits, including Jeff Burroughs' homer in the second, before he got relief from Bob Stanley in the sixth. Stanley earned his first save, holding Oakland to one hit for 3 1/2 innings.
Jurak replaced Wade Boggs at third base in the second after Boggs collided with catcher Gary Allenson on a pop fly at the plate.
Jurak led off the fourth with a double. One out later, Mike Easler tripled, scoring Jurak with the tying run. Tony Armas' double scored Easler and, after Ray Burris replaced starter Tim Conroy (0-1), Glenn Hoffman doubled to score Arms.
