The Harvard men's rugby club copped the Northeast Regional title yesterday in Cornfield. N.J., defeating a Boston University club that had beaten the Crimson for the same title last fall
Behind the inspired play of forward John Catliff, the Crimson lived up to its billing as the Northeast's top-ranked team and stopped the Terriers, 13-6, in yesterday's final.
The Harvard ruggers had defeated Army, 30-0. Saturday to advance to the finals.
As a result, the Crimson will now advance to the Eastern Final Four in two weeks, with a shot to advance to the national championship. The winners of the Eastern Final Four tourney and the Western Final Four will meet for the national title.
Catliff led the ruggers on the weekend, scoring 35 out of the Crimson's 43 total points.
Before Harvard moves to the Final Four, however, it will take care of some business at Brown next weekend. There, the Crimson will try to regain the Ivy League title Harvard had owned for three years before the Bruins won last year's title.
