Winthrop House Changes Format Of Spring Dance

Winthrop House has decided to drop the original theme of the dance it will be sponsoring because of low ticket sales, according to members of the Winthrop House Committee.

The theme, conceived in House Committee, was that each dance participant would invite a date of his or her choice anonymously, through a special "dance committee." If the anonymous offer were turned down, the participant would have been allowed a second choice, explained W. Stephen Waters '85, the vice-president of the House Committee.

"Unfortunately, interest didn't show up in the dance's ticket sales, and we couldn't take a chance," explained Mohan M. Nadkharni '85, the president of the House Committee. Nadkarni added that Winthrop would spend an estimated $800 on this "theme" dance.

Michelle Gersten, a tutor in Winthrop House, recalled attending similar parties as an undergraduate at Cornell "It's just a good way to get people together even if they don't stay the whole party with the original person," she said.

With the demise of the "crush theme." Winthrop will instead bring WBCN disc jockey Larry Lopert to the House, said Winthrop resident David B. Connelly '85.
