Police Blotter

Three 18th-and 19th-century Oriental art objects on exhibit at the Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ) were broken Monday night when the display case was some-how moved.

A small agate bowl in the case broke into several pieces, Julia Murray, assistant curator for the Fogg Art Museum Oriental collection, said yesterday. In addition, a crystal vase was chipped and a jade blade nicked, she added.

The works were not extremely rare, the curator said, explaining that the Fogg has other works from that time period. She would not disclose the value of the objects.

Arthur C. Beale, director of the Fogg's Center for Conservation, which restores and repairs art objects, said this week that he didn't know yet whether the bowl could be repaired.

"We're trying to appraise the cost of repairing the objects versus their value," Beale added.
