The Harvard women's fencing team upped its record to 3-4 by sweeping away the competition Saturday afternoon in the Indoor Athletic Building. The squad rolled over Brown, 10-6, Holy Cross, 14-2, and Trinity, 12-4.
"We sort of whopped them," was the way freshman Anita Hawkins saw it.
The three victories were good news for the women fencers, who opened the season with a 10-6 loss to M. I. T. last Wednesday.
"We lost in bouts but we were very close on touches against M. I. T.," said Crimson Captain Lori McLaughlin. "I think people lost on nerves then, [Saturday] you could see a big improvement."
Starters McLaughlin Hawkins, Claudia Polsky and Giulia Cicchetti all fenced so well that Harvard clinched the 16-bout matches early and was able to do some substituting of IV players.
"We completely dominated the other teams," Hawkins said.
The squad takes on Columbia, Fairleigh Dickinson and the University of Pennsylvania next weekend.
