After sweeping to three victories before a spirited crowd of more than 500 at WPI Saturday, the Harvard wrestling team awoke Sunday morning to find itself ranked second in New England.

The undefeated squad now 5-0 after the victories over New York University. New Hampshire and WPI-is off to one of its fastest starts in years, but the real test will come Thursday against highly rated Springfield, predicts Coach John Lee.

"It everything goes right, we can beat them, but on the other hand, we can lose the match pretty easily too," he said.

Springfield placed first in last week's 16-team Coast Guard Tournament, with the fourth place Crimson just 11 points behind.

Sweeping

Most of the Harvard Squad came away with at least one victory Saturday, and senior Co-Captain Barry Bausano, competing at 177 pounds, continued his perfect season by handily defeating two opponents.

Sophomore Mike Meade wrestling at 118 pounds, posted a 2-1 record on the day, and "looked the best he been since he got here, "Lee said.

Scott Beck, one of Harvard's strong freshman contingent, also came away with a 2-1 mark on the day, and the combined efforts of Tri-Captain Dan Medalic (2-0) and freshman Jeff Clark (1-0) at 134 pounds allowed them to sweep the weightclass.

Freshman John Moon, at 146 pounds, also notched two victories with no losses as he handily overcame his NYU and New Hampshire opponents.

Classmate John Freeman, at 150 pounds, tell to touch New Hampshire grappler but came back with a pin against WPI Fellow Yardling Pete Holmes also walked away undefeated (2-0-1), and at 167, Kevin McGinty went 1-1 while Richard Lyman posted one loss.

Splitting the duties at 190 pounds, Tri-Captain Sean Wallace (2-0) and junior Kevin Wattles (1-0) racked up another Crimson sweep.

Although Harvard had clinched each of its three victories by the time the heavyweights squared off, Mark Miller took both his matches and Paul Weisen lost a close 4-3 decision.
