DALLAS--Boston's Larry Bird dominated his team's seventh straight victory with 40 points, nine rebounds and nine assists as the Celtics overpowered the Dallas Mavericks 114-99 last night.

Best in the Business

Bird hit 16 of 21 shots, including two baskets midway through the fourth period that sparked a 10-0 Boston run that gave the Celtics a 102-90 lead with 3:11 to play.

Bird, who also hit eight of eight free throws, got help from Robert Parish, who scored 18 points, and Dennis Johnson, who finished with 17 as Boston, 12-1, maintained the best record in the NBA.

Dallas, 8-8, got 27 points from Jay Vincent and 25 from Mark Aguirre but remained winless against Boston in nine tries.

In the third period, Dallas used a 9-0 stretch to climb back into the game and trailed after three, 81-78.

Aguirre scored 17 points in the second period, but Boston, hitting 13 of 18 shots (72 percent), led at halftime 60-48.

Bird, who hit nine of 10 shots in the first half, directed a 10-0 Celtic run with two baskets, two free throws and an assist that led to a 29-20 Boston lead after the first period.

Danny Ainge added 16 points for the Celtics, who won their 10th game of the year by 11 or more points and pulled closer to surpassing their best start ever, 14-1 in 1972-73.
