Quarterback Loses Court Case
Tulane quarterback Jon English lost his court battle yesterday to play college football and only an order from a higher court can put him into Saturday's game against Vanderbilt in the Superdome.
The ruling by Civil District Judge Revius Ortique rejected a plea for a temporary injunction against the NCAA, which had ruled English ineligible because he violated the student transfer rule.
Ortique refused to grant English an injunction against the NCAA and Tulane.
He learned of the ruling at practice in the Superdome with Tulane, where his father, Wally, is head football coach.
"I think I relied on the NCAA rules that said I would be eligible I did everything that I was supposed to do," the younger English said. "The judge interpreted it. He said that those rules were very arbitrary but, you know, to me they were very clear.
