The Sullivan Principle

The The Rev. Leon Sullvian, a Black civil rights activist and leader of one of Miladelpha's larger Black churches, was appointed to the General Mosers broad of directions in 1971. Initially, Sullivan used his position to press for the withdrawal of G.M, and other U.S. companies from South Africa. By 1975 Sullivan had failed to persuade at single company to withdraw, so he decided to change sacics and encourage companies to commit themselves to the abolishment of apartheid. In March, 1977. Sullivan released a "Statement of Principles" for companies operating in South Africa. Originality endorsed by 12 forms principles now have almost 150 corporate agnatories. The Principles are:

I. Non-segregation of the races on all eating convert and work facilities. II. Equal and fair employment practice for all employees.
