For the week ending May 21, the statistics from the Harvard University Police Department report to homicides, sudden deaths, or rapes; eight thefts over $100, seven thefts less than $100, one robbery, nine instances of vandalism, and one assault provoked during an argument over a cardboard box in a rubbish cart.
The following reports of crimes were taken from notes in the University police log last week:
May 28, 1:37 a.m.--After hearing reports of disturbance in Adams House, police found a student in the Tunnel C area. After telling the student not to cause any more trouble and removing him from the tunnel, police were later called to Wadsworth Gate where they found the same "disturbed person" at 5:40 a.m.
May 29, 9:40 a.m.--Police discovered green grafitti on the John Harvard statue as well as on University Hall and on the north side of Widener.
May 29, 10:38 p.m.--A student in Winthrop returned to his room in J entry to discover a wallet valued at $40, $15 in cash and a check for $8980 missing. No suspects are reported.
June 1, 4:29 p.m.--A curator for the Museum of Comparative Zoology returned to discover two oriental rugs taken from room 103. The 9'x12' and 9'x8' rugs of unknown value were estimated to have been taken sometime between May 27 and May 31.
June 2, 3:18 a.m.--A large brick was thrown through the kitchen window of the Harvard Lampoon during a Lampoon weekly party. The incident occurred shortly after the humor organization had some problem with a bouncer they had hired for the night.
June 2, noon--A woman in Quincy House returned to find her 21-inch Zenith color television worth $400 missing from her room. There were no signs of forced entry of suspects.
June 3, 9:22 p.m.--Outside Mather House on Flagg Street, an unknown person set tire to two foam mattresses. With assistance from the Harvard Police department, the Cambridge Fire Department extinguished the flames.
June 3, 11:43 p.m.--Police responded to a working fire in Quincy. Room 621, where a desk top was aflame. A student from Kirkland House helped put out the fire and saw a male suspect in the area Arson is suspected.
